Matt Hardy – ‘Vince McMahon Didn’t Want The Rock Being Bigger Than WWE’

Matt Hardy suspects Vince McMahon may not have been too broken up about The Rock leaving WWE for Hollywood, as the Great One may have outgrown the promotion.

During an episode of his “Extreme Life” podcast, Matt Hardy spoke at length about the Great One and The Rock stepping away from the squared circle. He said,

“I think Vince didn’t want to consciously try and allow anyone to become bigger than the WWE. He wanted to make the biggest thing about WWE the brand itself. But, man, The Rock really was special. One of my all-time favorite moments in professional wrestling was WrestleMania X8 when he and [Hollywood] Hogan were in the ring, the crowd was going nuts, [and] it was so amazing to see Hogan being given that moment. The crowd was eating out of their hands — it was unreal.

Matt Hardy would also compete at WrestleMania X8 where he and Jeff Hardy would be unsuccessful in a fatal four-way tag-team match for the WWF World Tag Team Championships.

Hardy Hardy recalled being a part of the massive show that took place in Toronto’s SkyDome. He said,

“I remember listening to the loudest reactions and one of the most surreal, cool moments I’ve ever personally been in an arena for.”
