WWE Raw Review 12/6/23

This week’s Raw emanates from the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

It is less than 3 weeks until Money in the Bank. Tonight there will be another qualifying match, we will also see Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn dealing with their issues with Imperium, and Finn Balor coming for Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship.

In Ring Segment:

Rhea Rhipley makes her way down to the ring. In the ring there is a podium covered in a black cloth. Adam Pearce is in the ring already. He presents Rhea with the Women’s World Championship (it is a copy of the men's World Heavyweight Championship belt). Dominik Mysetrio comes down to the ring (to some very loud boos).

He puts the new championship around Rhea’s waist. Dominik takes a microphone and he is continued to be booed by the crowd. Dominik tells the crows that they are being disrespectful to him and Mami. He says that everyone knows that behind a great woman is a great man. He says that he is glad that he can be there for Mami and he will always be there to support her.

Cody Rhodes’ music hits and out comes Cody. Cody asks Kansas what they want to talk about. Cody says he has all the respect in the world for Rhea and the title she is holding. Cody says they could talk about his match with the Miz later, but he wants to do something else. We then see a replay of last week when Dominik called Cody a “deadbeat dad”, Cody calling Dominik a mistake and Dominik slapping Cody, then hiding behind Rhea. We cut back to the ring, Dominik puts his arm around Rhea. Cody says that it would be nice to be out in the ring and for Brock Lesnar’s music to hit, because then that would mean that Brock has accepted his challenge, but it seems that Lesnar doesn't have the balls to face Cody. Dominik thought that he could slap Cody in the face, so why not face Cody at Money in the Bank. Dominik appears to think about it, he goes to speak but is booed again by the crowd. Dominik says that is is afraid of no one. He says that he embarrassed Cody in the ring last week, just like he would do to anyone else. The crowd chants “you suck” at Dominik. Rhea accepts the match on Dominik’s behalf, telling Cody that her “Latino Heat” is more of a man than anyone in the area, at home, or even Cody himself.

The Miz attempts to jump Cody from behind, but Cody is able to get the first punch. Cody turns back to Dominik who backs away. Cody clotheslines Miz out of the ring. Dominik attacks Cody from behind. Dominik and Rhea leave the ring, laughing as they go.

Cody gets down from the top and instead takes him out with a suicide dive. Cody gets Miz back in the ring, and Miz immediately begs him off. Cody grabs Miz’s leg and attacks it. Cody hits a leg-snapper on Miz. Cody wrenches the arm and puts Miz in the corner. Cody chops the chest and puts Miz in the corner. Cody stomps Miz in the corner and backs up. Cody charges at Miz in the corner, but Miz sends him shoulder-first into the ring post. Miz quickly goes outside and sends Cody into the steel steps. Cody clutches his injured arm as we go to a break.

Back from the break, we see Miz connect with a corner clothesline. Miz goes to the top rope, but Cody scales the ropes. Miz manages to push him away. Miz goes for a diving axe handle, but Cody avoids it and hits him with the Side Effect. Both men are now down. Once they are up, Cody ducks a clothesline and hits a rebound clothesline. Cody slingshots over Miz and hits a snap powerslam. Cody hits the ropes and connects with a Disaster Kick, covers Miz and gets a near fall. Miz gets out of a powerbomb attempt and goes for a Figure Four Leglock, but Cody kicks him away. Cody goes for a Cody Cutter, but Miz counters with a Skull Crushing Finale attempt. Cody fights out and rolls Miz up for a two-count. Miz quickly kicks Cody down and hits the IT Kicks. Cody ducks a roundhouse and rolls Miz up, but Miz rolls through and kicks Cody in the head before hitting a big spike kneeling DDT for a near fall. Cody manages to get out of the Skull Crushing Finale and hits a Cody Cutter on Miz. Cody then hits a Cross Rhodes, covers the Miz and picks up the victory.

A good match. The Miz is still on his losing streak. Matches like this are keeping Cody busy until his eventual rematch with Lesnar. Cody even got busted open in this match. Grade C.

Backstage Segment:

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are seen talking to Becky Lynch. Lynch leaves and heads to the ring, but passes Alpha Academy and Maxxine Dupri, who is wearing an Olympic singlet.

In Ring Segment:

Becky Lynch is in the ring. The Man has come around to Wichita. She says that she will win Money in the Bank. Lynch says that she has been lucky enough to do a lot of things in her career, but the Money in the Bank has always alluded her. Lynch has a good feeling about this year. She says that we have all been conditioned to think that the number one person in the company is the one who has the title, and the women now have shiny new titles. Lynch believes that the number one person is the one who holds the power, and that person is the one who holds the briefcase, because they have the power to make the champion scared and put them off their game. Lynch says that when people get scared, they do stupid, crazy and dangerous things, but Lynch likes that because it makes her better. She says when we think of people being scared, we only have to look at Trish Stratus. Trish was scared that she was going to be exposed at Night of Champions so she got an insurance policy in Zoey Stark.

Zoey Stark’s music hits and she comes out onto the stage. Zoey says she has heard enough. Zoey says that Becky has a list of accomplishments, but one thing that Becky will never accomplish will be beating Trish Stratus. Zoey says that Becky will add another failure to her list when she cannot beat Zoey. Becky says that she does have a lot of failures, but she learns from them and that makes her great. Becky says that we know nothing about Zoey Stark. Becky says that she knows Zoey is special in the ring, that she has finesse, agility and power, but the one thing that Zoey lacks is personality. Zoey isn’t happy about this and tells Becky that if she thinks that Zoey has no personality, then Becky must not own a mirror. Zoey says that Becky did not become relevant because of her personality, she became relevant by someone breaking her face. Zoey says that Becky is scratching and clawing trying to hold on to that fame, and now she is trying to hold onto Trish Stratus. Zoey says that at Money in the Bank, she will break Becky’s face and make her famous.

Becky challenges Zoey to come down to the ring, but Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville come out. Sonya tells Becky that the only reason she didn’t fight back, is because she cares about her tag team partner. Becky tells Chelsea to get into the ring and she tells Stark to watch why she is famous.

Match 2: Becky Lynch vs Chelsea Green w/Sonya Deville

Becky takes Chelsea down with a shoulder tackle. Becky knocks her to the corner. Chelsea boots her back, but Becky drops her on the apron and knocks her to the floor as we go to a break.

Chelsea takes Becky down and hits a curb stomp into the bottom turnbuckle. Chelsea knocks Becky down and pushes her head. Becky fights back and sends Chelsea to the corner. Chelsea puts Becky on the apron, but Becky knocks her back. Becky goes to the top rope, but Chelsea cuts her off. Becky knocks her down to the canvas and hits a missile dropkick. Chelsea rolls out of the ring, so Becky hits a baseball slide. Becky hits a diving elbow off the apron and sends Chelsea into the barricade a few times. Becky gets Chelsea in the ring, but Chelsea fights back. Chelsea hits a kick to the head and goes for a finish, but Becky fights out. Becky goes for the Manhandle Slam, but Chelsea counters with a roll-up for a two-count. Becky immediately transitions into a Dis-Arm-Her for the submission.

A decent match, but there was definitely no doubt on who would win this one. Nothing really much to say about this one. Grade C-

A really good back and forth match. It’s good to see Damian getting a decent shot at singles matches. These two have great chemistry in the ring together. Grade B

In Ring Segment:

Finn Balor makes his way to the ring. He calls out Seth Rollins. He says they need to talk, no singing, no jokes. Just facts. Seth Rollins then makes his way to the ring. As usual, the crowd sings along to his theme and Rollins soaks it in. Finn asks if they are done, but the crowd continues. Finn says that he has waited for 7 years to say what he has to say, so they better shut up. The crowd carries on singing. Finn says that he will give the crowd something to sign about. Finn says that 7 years ago, he was a first round draft pick on Raw. He then beat Rollins on his first night. Then, three weeks later, he beat Rollins to become the first ever Universal Champion. The crowd continues to sing. Finn does not look impressed. Rollins then asks if Kansas is having fun and the crowd loudly cheers. Finn says he isn’t having fun. He says that he has been waiting for seven years to say this, but the crowd drowns him out by singing Rollins’ theme. Rollins asks what Finn has been trying to tell him for seven years, he asks if it is that important to ruin everyone's party, then he needs to get it off his chest. Finn says, what should have been the highest of highs, turned into the lowest of lows for him because of Rollins. Finn says that Rollins gave him a torn bicep, pec and labrum. Finn isn’t complaining about the injury, because this is a hard business, a tough business and injuries happen. What bothers Finn, other than the fact the these idiots in the crowd won’t stop singing, Finn says the crowd don’t actually like Rollins, they just sing his song because they like it. Rollins asks what Finn is talking about. Finn says that Rollins took everything from him, his momentum, his title and a year from his career. So now it is Finn’s turn to take everything from Rollins. Finn is going to take Rollins’ momentum, title and a year from his career and he will do it at Money in the Bank.

Rollins thinks about what Finn has said, the crowd continues to sing. Rollins then laughs. He says he isn’t laughing at the crowd signing Finn’s promo out of the building, but he is laughing because this is the Finn he has been waiting 7 years for. The inaugural Universal Championship at SummerSlam sent them both on different paths. One became bitter and one became better. Rollins says that he has done some bad things over the past 7 years, but he has also made memories, history and moments that these people will never forget. Rollins was able to do that because he changed, adapted, rolled with the punches and got better every single day. Now he is the greatest version of Seth Rollins and the proof is the championship. If Finn wants a chance at Money in the Bank, then it's on.

Rollins says that he has to know which version of Finn will be at Money in the Bank, because this bitter shell of a champion doesn't stand a chance, but the Finn Balor that beat him to become the first ever Universal Champion stands a chance. Rollins asks if Finn will bring that man to Money in the Bank, or if it will be the man that has been walking around for the past 7 years acting like a little bitch. Rollins laughs and walks off.

Ronda Rousey gets on the apron to distract Raquel. Shayna rolls Raquel up, and Ronda holds her down to help the pin.

A throw away match in my opinion. It wasn’t really a necessary match and it did nothing to help either person. Grade D

Video Package:

The life and times of “The Iron Sheik” Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, 1942 – 2023.

Match 6: Chad Gable w/Otis & Maxxine Dupri vs Erik w/Ivar & Valhalla

Again, a nothing match. But at least we had some entertainment with Valhalla and Maxxine. Grade D

After the match, Alpha Academy celebrates while the Viking Raiders look on.

Finn asks Damian if he would cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase against him if he wins. Damian says that he wouldn’t do that to Finn.

Backstage Interview:

Cathy Kelly is interviewing Seth Rollins. She asks if he is ready to face Finn Balor. Rollins laughs and says that he is prepared. After he beats Finn at Money in the Bank, he says that Finn will lose his mind and maybe Damian too. Kaiser then crushes Zayn with a rolling death valley driver. Gunther tags in. Kaiser knocks Owens off the apron. Gunther and Kaiser hit a throw into a European Uppercut. Gunther big boots him down. Owens then DDTs Gunther on the ramp. In the ring, Zayn hits Kaiser with a Blue Thunder Bomb for the win!

This match definitely made the Tag Team titles feel important. It was a good back and forth match between the two teams. The ending kept Gunther looking strong as he wasn’t the one to take the pin. A well deserved main event. Grade B+

Overall, a good episode of Raw. There was still quite a lot of filler (which I have omitted from this review, especially if it was just recaps of what happened last week). But the matches seemed to be pretty good, apart from the meaningless matches.
