KAYFABE CLIPS: The Macho Man talks about the WWF Title Tournament at WrestleMania IV

Heading into a big night in Atlantic City, Randy Savage says he's betting on himself to be the man who comes home with the gold

1988 - The World Wrestling Federation Championship was up for grabs heading into WrestleMania IV, and one man with his eyes on the prize was The Macho Man Randy Savage.

The title had been vacated when Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan on the history-making Main Event show on NBC earlier in the year. The Eighth Wonder of the World used the famous Hebner twin referee swerve to take down the Hulkster's long championship reign but then made the fatal error of merely handing the belt over to Ted DiBiase.

It was the Million-Dollar Man who had hired Andre and orchestrated the whole plot to ensure he would be the new top man in the WWF.

Unfortunately for the conspirators, one pretty important person had a problem with this. President Jack Tunney ruled that the coveted crown could not just be simply given away. He nullified any transaction and declared the title be put up for grabs in a single-elimination tournament at WrestleMania IV.

In this video, Savage discusses the battle for the belt. Macho Man tells Mean Gene Okerlund that even though there may be favorites like Hogan and Andre in the bracket, he was going to shock the world.

He would live up to those promises, capturing his first world title at 'Trump Plaza' (Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City) and embarking on a year-long run as a dominant titleholder. He would eventually turn heel on Hogan, and lose the title back to The Hulkster at WrestleMania V.
