WWE Smackdown Review 09/06/23


Arran here with my smackdown review let's dive in.


In-Ring Segment: Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman


Heyman starts to speak, but The Usos’ music hits. Jey slowly walks to the ring. Jey says he let a lot of things slide, but stabbing their older brother in the back is unforgivable. He doesn’t know if he can forgive Sikoa for this. Sikoa doesn’t say a word. Jey tells Heyman to say what he has to say and tosses the mic down. Heyman says this isn’t Heyman, Reigns, or Sikoa’s fault. It’s Jimmy’s fault. Jimmy made up his mind for the both him and Jey and that’s not right. Heyman says Jimmy is jealous of Jey. Why? Because Roman Reigns wants Groom Jey to be the next Tribal chief. Jey is pacing back and forth. Heyman says he set up a match for Jey tonight.


This match will put Jey on the path to becoming the next Tribal Chief. Jey is going to be tasked with bringing home gold to The Bloodline, but not as a tag team champion. No, the tag team known as “The Usos” is done in WWE. Heyman got Jey a match for the United States Championship against Austin Theory. Reigns will publicly annoit Jey as next, as long as Jey gives him an answer right now. Jey lets Heyman know he’ll take him up on that U.S. Title match. Heyman asks about the other stuff. Jey tells him he will get back to him on that.


Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Santos Escobar w/Rey Mysterio vs. Mustafa Ali


LA Knight walks and joins the commentary desk to watch the match. Escboar and Ali jaw at each other over who is going to win MITB. Both men trade strikes. Escobar lands a flying axhandle. Ali responds with a ranna that sends Escobar out of the ring. Escobar pulls Ali out of the ring. Ali and Escobar trade strikes outside the ring. Escobar sets up a suplex on the apron. Ali fights out of it. Escobar pushes Ali into the ring post. Escobar sends Ali flying off the ring steps with a ranna. Ali kicks out of Escobar’s pin attempt. Ali rolls out of the ring.


Escobar surprises Ali with the Arrow From the Depths of Hell. Ali gets to his feet. Escobar dives off the top and lands a splash. After the break, Escobar and Ali are fighting on the top rope. Escobar pushes Ali off. Ali does a backflip and lands on his feet. Escobar tries a dive. Ali catches Escobar with a dropkick in midair. Ali brings Escobar back into the ring. Escobar whips Ali into the middle turnbuckle. Poison Ranna by Escobar. Ali kicks out. Tornado DDT by Ali. Escobar kicks out. Escobar hits the Phantom Driver off the top for the win.


Winner- Santos Escobar




Backstage, Sami Zayn tells Jey Uso not to listen to what everyone is saying. Listen to his heart instead.




In-Ring Segment: NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn

Kayla Braxton is in the ring. As soon as she welcomes Fyre and Dawn to SmackDown, Ronda Rousey’s music hits. Rousey and Shayna Baszler stomp to the ring. Baszler tells Dawn and Frye that those NXT Tag Titles were created for because of her, so they belong to her. Rousey says they have run through this division so fast they are gonna be hungry soon.


They want Fyre and Dawn’s titles. Dawn and Fyre accept their title-for-title challenge. Fyre and Dawn attack Rousey and Baszler. Dawn breaks up Baszler’s running knee attempt on Fyre. Fyre drops Baszler with a gourdbuster. Dawn blasts Baszler with a running knee. Rousey holds Baszler back. Now isn’t the time.


Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Bayley w/Iyo Sky vs. Mia Yim w/AJ Styles

Bayley gets the win after pulling Yim’s hair and hitting the Rose Plant.


Winner- Bayley

After the match, Scarlett walks down to the ring and spits red dust in Styles’ face. Styles stumbles towards the barricade. Karrion Kross appears in the crowd and locks Styles in the Kross Jacket. Yim goes after Scarlett but she hops into the crowd.







Backstage, Bianca Belair wants to get her hands on Asuka. Adam Pearce asks her to stay away tonight since he is presenting Asuka with the new WWE Women’s Championship tonight. Belair isn’t having it. Pearce promises her she is in line for a rematch and he just needs her to do him a solid. Belair reluctantly agrees to stay away from the ring tonight.


WWE Women’s Championship Presentation

Adam Pearce is in the ring. Pearce introduces the current Raw Women’s Champion Asuka to the ring. Asuka saunters her way to the ring. She’s all smiles. Pearce gives Asuka the new championship. The new WWE Women’s Championship is white with a gold plate, which mirrors Roman Reigns new title design.

Charlotte Flair interrupts. Pearce asks Flair what she is doing here. He knows what she is trying to do, but she needs to get in line. Flair says she doesn’t wait in line. She made the line. Flair wants that new title. Flair challenges Asuka. Asuka accepts. Asuka spits the mist, but Flair ducks.




Backstage, Belair walks into Pearce’s office as he’s on the phone.

He’s discussing the Flair/Asuka title match. Before Belair can say anything, Pearce tells her he will figure this out. Belair says he better. When she gets her lick back, it will be justified.




NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are in the crowd to watch the next match.


Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Butch vs. Baron Corbin

Corbin grabs a mic and says he’s going to win the MITB match again. Corbin craps on Hayes and Williams. As soon as the bell rings Butch drops Corbin with a enziguri. Butch lands a flurry of offence. Corbin surprises Butch with a backbreaker. Butch snaps Corbin’s fingers. Corbin responds with a clothesline. Corbin jaws at Hayes in the crowd while he tries a chokeslam. Butch rolls up Corbin for the win.


Winner- Butch




After the match, Corbin goes over to the barricade and punches Williams. Hayes hops the barricade and decks Corbin. Referees run down to the ring and break up the brawl before it starts.



Backstage, Butch is celebrating his victory with Sheamus and Ridge Holland. Corbin barges in and says the win didn’t count because Hayes and Williams got in the way. Cameron Grimes appears out of nowhere and attacks Corbin.


Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Iyo Sky w/Bayley vs. Shotzi


Shotzi land as a flurry of offense. Sky distracts the referee as Bayley knocks Shotzi off the top rope. Sky lands the Over the moonsault for the win.


Winner- Iyo Sky


Backstage, Austin Theory says he had zero time to get ready for this match tonight, but it doesn’t matter. He’s going to beat Jey Uso just like he beat John Cena at WrestleMania. Theroy is going to send Jey back to The Bloodline empty-handed. If Heyman is looking for a new client, he just needs to check out Austin Theory, live.



United States Championship Match: Austin Theory (c) vs. Jey Uso


Theory grabs a side headlock. Jey escapes. Theory floors him with a shoulder block. Jey lands one of his own before clotheslining Theory over the top rope. Jey tosses Theory over the announce desk. After the break, Theory is working over Jey. Jey misses the hip attack. Theory lands a rolling dropkick. Spinout Powerbomb by Theory. Jey kicks out. Theory sets up A Town Down.


Jey escapes and lands a superkick. Theory falls into the referee. Jey lands the Uso Splash. There is no referee to make the count. Pretty Deadly hops the barricade and attacks Jey. Jimmy Uso runs down to the ring to make the save. Solo Sikoa appears and attacks Jimmy. Jey pulls Sikoa off of Jimmy.

Jimmy tries to superkick Sikoa, but he kicks Jey by accident. Jimmy and Sikoa fight off. Theory pins Jey.


Winner and STILL United States Champion, Austin Theory!


After the match, Heyman is standing on the ramp with Sikoa. Jimmy helps Jey up. Jey pushes Jimmy away. Jimmy tries to apologize. Jey leaves the ring and has a staredown with Heyman and Sikoa. Heyman apologizes with a smile on his face. Jey says forget this and walks away. Heyman tells Siri to call Roman Reigns.
