Top 3 Takeaways from Dark: Elevation 30th Jan 2023

This week's recap of AEW's YouTube show, Dark: Elevation. Episode 100(!) on January 30th 2023

This week’s Elevation came to you from Lexington, Kentucky, with 7 matches featuring the Kings of the Black Throne, Top Flight, Tony Nese and more... Here are your Highlights

#1 Athena’s Time to Shine

Athena received one of her first opportunities to show her personality outside of the ring in this week’s episode, in the form of a backstage interview/promo. The promo starts with Lexy Nair interviewing the Fallen Goddess, who swiftly kicks Lexy to the curb after she asked who Athena would be partnering with later in the night.

Athena then took the role of the interviewer, and in a hilarious segment interviewed Dark staple, Diamonte. After smashing the microphone into Diamante’s face, twice! Athena was able to convince Diamonte to tag with her, with the promise of receiving a future ROH Women’s title shot, should they win – they didn’t.

#2 Yuka joins the Dark Order

Athena & Diamonte went on to lose to the tag team combination of Yuka Sakazaki & Skye Blue, after Athena feigned an ankle injury, leaving Diamonte in the dust, picking up the loss. (Also ending Athena’s 20-match winning streak! Credit to @AEWMetric’s on twitter for the stat)

In an interview later in the night, Yuka was approached by Evil Uno, John Silver & Alex Reynolds, of the Dark Order (also winners in tonight’s matches). In standard Dark Order comedy-ness they ask The Magical Girl if she wanted to join the Dark Order, to which she responded “Hai!” which, if you didn’t know, means “yes” in Japanese! Silver, confusing this with “Hi!” then proceeded to ask her again, greeted with another “Hai” before Dark Order gave up, and walked away!

#3 The King of Swing’s Reign continues

We had another ROH title defence this week, with Claudio Castagnoli defending against GCW regular, Blake Christian. All Heart had a great showing for himself – as he normally does on Dark. But unfortunately the Swiss Superman was able to get the win, via another tap out, during the Great Swing – another trend seemingly started by the GOAT Chris Jericho!
