It’s Saturday morning, and you know what that means – top 3 Takeaways from last night’s Rampage, coming at you from Colorado Springs, Colorado!
#1 A Tremendous Opportunity
This week’s main event was a corker, a fatal-4-way with #1 Contendership implications for the Women’s World title. With the winner receiving their shot against Toni Storm on next week’s Dynamite. We had 2 former World champions, Britt Baker & Nyla Rose, a veteran of the ring in Mercedes Martinez & the rookie Skye Blue square off for this opportunity.
During the match Marina Shafir (who accompanied Nyla) interfered, however she was driven out of the arena by Hikaru Shida (who accompanied Baker), kendo stick in hand. A lot of the match actually took place outside of the ring. The finish came when the DMD hit Nyla with a curb stomp, only to be taken back out of the ring by Martinez. While the 2 ladies scrapped on the outside, Skye Blue seized her opportunity by hitting the “Code Blue” on an already staggered Native Beast, 1-2-and-3. The rookie scores an upset!
#2 Stop the Ride. I wanna get off
This is bound to be a car crash, surely? We’ve seen in past week’s the animosity growing between Karen Jarrett & referee Aubrey Edwards, with hints of them meeting in an in-ring match (please God, no!) well on this week’s Rampage Renee Paquette interviewed Jeff Jarrett & his ever growing stable. The best part of this was when Karen called Edwards “AEW’s Dramatic Diva” – no truer words have been said!
In the end Aubrey does answer the call, even cutting a promo on Karen, explaining that AEW won’t sanction a one-on-one match (thank you Gods). But then Mark Briscoe interrupts and says that they will sanction a mixed 6-person tag. This means we will see Karen, Jeff & Jay Lethal taking on Briscoe, Aubrey & a partner of their choosing... as if this wasn’t already awful news, who was the third person? Papa Briscoe *face-palm*
I hope that match is on Dynamite, so that Our Own Johnny has to review it, I don’t want none of that!
#3 Turnabouts
The opening match this week was a Trio’s match, with the Lucha Bros teaming up with Bandido (seriously Bandido, pick a team! Are you Best Amigo’s? Are you a Lucha Bro?!) and they went up against The Firm’s Big Bill, Lee Moriarty & Ethan Page. An unusual booking, considering Ethan is now under contract with the Hardy’s...
But it then all made sense, as the Hardy brothers & Zay crept their way to the ring, microphone in hand. They asked Ethan, why they were not making use of Jeff Hardy’s gift. Right before Ethan started to un-roll some classic Jeff Hardy arm bands (the ones with the holes cut out). Unfortunately for Page, this momentary distraction done him no favours, helping Bandido pick up the win.
