The Iron Will Tournament - Tidal Wrestling

On Sunday 17th March, the Parish was home to Tidal Wrestling and the Final of their Iron Will Tournament.

It was an action packed day from start to finish. The event started off with Tidal GM Mike “Maddog” Angus welcoming everyone to the event. It was also referee Lee Thomas's birthday (well, the day before) so Maddog led the crowd in a chorus of "Happy Birthday" which continued well into the rest of the show.

We then got the HT Drake open challenge which was answered by Zeo Knox. The Huddersfield crowd were not best impressed with Zeo’s words of wisdom, so they were very happy when HT Drake shut him up and picked up a victory.

We were then graced with the presence of the Tidal Tag Team Champions “Chase the Ace” Ace Matthews and Chase Alcala. They were defending their titles against the team of Memes and Adonis Payne. This match was incredible. It looked like Adonis Payne and Memes were going to become the new tag team champions, until Memes turned on Adonis, allowing the champions to retain their titles. After the match, Ace Matthews had some words for the owner of Tidal, Taj, as well as the Huddersfield crowd. It was announced that there will be a Tag Team Tournament to determine who will next challenge for the titles.

It was then time for the Tidal World Championship match! Myles Kayman was challenging the champion Scotty Rawk. This was a fast paced match and one of the highlights of the event. Scotty is the definition of a fighting champion and he was definitely challenged by Myles. A great match that ended with Scotty retaining the title.  Also, big shout out to referee Sandy Beeches for holding her own in this one after Lee Thomas took a big hit, leading her to take over being the official, she did not back down against Myles, even throwing out a slap!

We then got the announcement that unfortunately Artemis and Dereiss were unable to compete at today’s event. Fortunately, a replacement had been found for Artemis in the form of her tag team partner Adonis Payne and one spot was left open. Ian Skinner and Dara Diablo both staking claim to the spot which lead to both men having to be separated by ring crew and referees.

After the interval, we were delighted with the Nina Samuels Show! Nina was interrupted by Gia and a Tidal Women’s title match was underway. Another great match with lots of action, Nina Samuels retained her title, but by nefarious means.

The next match was a true battle of Good vs Evil. Spike Trivet and Joe Blazr had a hard hitting, action packed match. This one was brilliant. Two incredibly talented individuals who gave this one their all! Spike Trivet picked up the win, but Joe was given a huge ovation from the crowd.

It was then time for the Iron Will Final to crown the NEW Iron Will Champion!

Smashing Mike came out first, followed by Vusyk, Adonis Payne and then Ian Skinner came out but was attacked by Dara Diablo. The match became a 5 way match and it was contested under Iron Man rules. I felt sorry for Maddog who had to keep score in this one as the action was happening everywhere. This was a true underdog story for Adonis Payne, after being attacked earlier in the event, he has managed to come back and keep up with 4 of the top wrestlers in Tidal. At one point, it did look like Adonis might have been out of the match as medics tended to him at ringside with a suspected shoulder injury, but he was able to valiantly get back into the match. It was an incredibly close one between all the competitors and so much fun to watch. In the end, Vusyk was able to pull ahead by 1 fall and become the NEW Iron Will Champion.

The crowd was heavily invested in the event from start to finish. If you want to catch all the Tidal action, their next event is on Sunday 5th May at Parish. You can get your tickets online, check out Tidal’s facebook page.

A huge well done to all the talent who participated in the show, they put on an absolutely amazing one. Also, well done to Taj and Mike Angus for putting together another great event.
