Rev Pro - Coventry

Before the show Andy Quilden came out and announced the 1st annual Trios Grand Prix was coming to Coventry on November 16th and 17th. This was fantastic news for the West Midlands who have been starved of the biggest BritWres promotions.

NINA SAMUELS VS ANITA VAUGHAN

This was scheduled to be Lizzy Evo Vs Anita Vaughan but Lizzy has picked up an injury. It was good to see she was still able to come out with 2 of the Cut Throat collective in Safire Reed and Mercedez Blaze.

Evo said she wasn’t going to waste her time on Vaughan but she knows someone who would love to fight her today. Samuels then attacked Vaughan from behind.

This one went just over 10 minutes and it took Blaze, Reed and Evo interfering to give Nina the opening to get the 3 count. A wins a win.

SUNSHINE MACHINE VS TREW AND LACEY

Every time we see TK and Mambo we know it might be for the last time as a duo in Rev Pro as they’ve said they will stop teaming the next time they lose.

If they can make it that far, they’re on a collision course with the Grizzled Young Veterans at the Copper Box for the 12th anniversary show.

There’s not many dedicated Tag Team wrestlers in BritWres; Trew and Lacey are 2 of them and you should expect to see them at more and more promotions over the next 12 months.

Sunshine Machine picked up the win at around the 13 minute mark.

DAVID FRANCISCO VS JOSHUA JAMES

On an absolute stacked card, this was the match I wasn’t as invested in before the show. It was more entertaining than I expected though.

Francisco used his usual shenanigans and James got caught low blowing him in retaliation. A rare match ending in DQ. I think we’re leading to something bigger between these 2.

KANJI VS DEBBIE KEITEL

Kanji and Keitel went at it for close to 14 minutes in the 2nd women’s match in the 1st half of the show.

Kanji came out on top but it was the after match events that intrigued.

The Cut Throat collective came out and attacked Kanji. Keitel made her way back to the ring from the ramp with coffee in hand. CTC held Kanji but Debbie threw the coffee in Blazes face before. Keitel and Kanji then cleaned house before shaking hands and hugging. I think we have 2 opponents for Cut Throat Collectives 5 Vs 5 challenge at the Copper Box.

RICKY KNIGHT JNR VS OMARI

I think Omari’s focus seems away from wrestling nowadays but he can always step in and deliver a good match and he had 1 hell of a dance partner in RKJ.

It’s just over 18 months since RKJ was Rev Pro Champion and on top of the world after beating Will Ospreay and he wants to get back to the summit as soon as possible.

At 18:50 this was the longest match of the night and it was the man from Norwich who had his hand raised.

CONNOR MILLS VS LEE DAWSON

Mills said if Dawson could last 5 minutes with him then they’d have a match at the 12th Anniversary show. Lee went on the offense and when Mills was in control he acted like he had all the time in the world. With a minute left Dawson was on the attack. He didn’t just want to last 5 minutes, he wanted to win. Mills took control and was shocked when Dawson kicked out with 26 seconds to go. An ankle lock by Connor with stomps to the back of his opponents head got the tapout with 4 seconds to spare.

Mills then apologised for spilling Ethan Allen’s news at the 229 that he was injured again. He asked Ethan to come out which he did with the help of a crutch. Ethan said he might not be Mills opponent at the Copper Box but he knew who was. Mills leaned over the ropes looking at the entrance for who he was going to face and Allen clocked him with his crutch before choking him with it and hitting an Angle Slam. Mills Vs Allen is set for the 12th Anniversary show.

CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE SCRAMBLE QUALIFIER

DANNY BLACK VS CAMERON KHAI

This was a tough one to call. Black has the reputation but Khai is Rev Pro through and through and was determined to get to the Copper Box.

The high flying Black flew through the ropes at Khai on the outside but Khai caught him and suplexed him over his knee on the outside. Danny rolled into the ring for reprieve but Khai flew over the top rope into a cutter and secured his place in the Cruiserweight Title Scramble.

ROBBIE X VS ZOZAYA

Zozaya is unreal. The sort of wrestler that makes you wonder how much unknown great talent is out there and I watch a lot of wrestling over 30+ promotions.

Robbie X is on a losing run and I feel an attitude change may be coming from him.

High flying moves and forearms were traded as the sweat was flying. Robbie went for his handstand cutter at the 15 minute mark but Zozaya superkicked him in the back. He followed it with a double stomp from the top for a close 2 count. Robbie hit a Panama sunrise and twisting somersault from the top top for a close count himself.

Zozaya hit a fireman’s carry from the 2nd rope to win a great battle in just over 16 minutes.

MICHAEL OKU VS DONOVAN DIJAK

I can’t remember seeing Dijak since his classic matches with Keith Lee what must be 5 years ago now. I was curious to see if he could still compete at that level and he answered the question emphatically.

I think some still underestimate Oku but there’s a reason he’s been at the top of the No1 promotion in the UK for the last 6 months.

Robbie X hadn’t got to the back quickly enough and Dijak attacked him on the way to the ring.

Dijak dominated most of the match. He stacked chairs on top of Oku on the ramp and ordered Amira not to help him. Amira cleared the chairs at an 8 count and Michael stumbled into the ring.

It was another power move at 18:30 which gave Oku an opening. Dijak threw the Rev Pro Champion in the air and Oku hit a huricarana on the way down hooking both legs and escaping with the win.

I was immediately hoping this isn’t a one off appearance from Dijak who looked like a star here. He attacked Oku after the match and Robbie X made the save hopefully setting up a match at the 12th Anniversary show if not York Hall. This has since been confirmed.

Just as you thought the show was over a close up of a title came on the screen, the AEW ‘American Title’. As the camera panned out MJF was holding it. The pop in the HMV Empire was so loud for this unexpected surprise. Maxwell berated the UK and sarcastically said he remembers the Boston Tea Party. MJF said he was giving Oku an opportunity of a lifetime and putting his American Title on the line on August 11th at York Hall.

MJF will be over here promoting AEW All In I’m sure but what does he have up his sleeve regarding Oku and Ospreay?

Rev Pro put early bird prices out for this event and rewarded those that trusted the booking. Prices went up per section by at least £10 and York Hall is now all but sold out. If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket you should go to another amazing card.

Rev Pro really went all in for this show and the crowd reflected it. Coventry had a lot more than some of the other locations Rev Pro use and this could be why the 1st annual Trios Grand Prix is happening in the Midlands. This should be similar to King of Trios for those that remember and should be a great 2 nights of action.

There’s a lot of shows before then though starting with York Hall and The Copper Box this month.
