Kurt Angle has shared his thoughts on former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, believing that the OTC was pushed too early in the company.
With Roman Reigns now a beloved babyface star, it’s easy to forget all the years where that idea was wholeheartedly rejected by the WWE fanbase.
From 2014-2020 Reigns was pushed as the face of WWE, something many fans felt he wasn’t suited for – especially early on following the break-up of The Shield.
Speaking at a K&S WrestleFest virtual signing, multi-time former WWE Champion Kurt Angle named Reigns as his ideal opponent on the current roster, also sharing his thoughts on Reigns’ long path to get to the position he’s in now.
Angle said:
“Roman Reigns. I’m not gonna lie to you the kid’s been on fire. I will say this – he earned every bit that he’s gotten.
“I do believe the company pushed him a little too early and the fans didn’t wanna accept that but he’s followed through. He’s proven that he’s one of the best in the world right now.”
Angle would then be asked for his thoughts on one of Reigns current WWE rivals Jacob Fatu. The Olympic gold medalist spoke highly of Fatu and the entire Bloodline, saying:
“Yeah he’s doing really well too. All those guys [are] extremely talented. They all come from the same family, the same Samoan background but yeah, they’re all extremely good.
“They’ve always been. You look at Rikishi and the ones in the past. They have a great reputation of being great workers.”
Roman Reigns will team with Cody Rhodes to face the team of Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu and WWE Bad Blood on October 5.
