Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton had found success regionally as the duo of The Fantastics. The duo was, admittedly, a take on the look of the Chippendale's male dance troupe that came into prominence in the 70s and 80s. They entered the ring wearing vests and bowties, usually to the tune of 'Sharp-Dressed Man' by ZZ Top.
The Fantastics were one of the many pairings of young, good-looking wrestlers who had the 'fun-loving, pretty boy' gimmick. It focused on a life of fun, partying, and rock and roll, and the image sold a lot of t-shirts and posters to adoring female fans.
Fulton and Rogers were unsuccessful in their bid to win the Crockett Cup in 1986, but they are remembered fondly by fans in the south. They found success in the Memphis territory, Texas, the Mid-South region, and the Carolinas. The pair held such prestigious championships as the AWA Southern tag team titles, the World Class and UWF tag team belts, and later. the NWA United States Tag Team Championship.
The Fantastics never appeared as a duo in WWE, but they did (ironically) wrestle one another as part of the promotion's Light Heavyweight Tournament in 1997. They would team up in WCW in later years, but with little success.
