Impact Wrestling Review 07/12/23

This week’s episode of Impact is an inter-promotional showdown between Impact Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA.

So, let’s get into the action straight away!

Match 1: Chris Sabin & Trinity vs Chik Tormenta & Dinamico

We kick off the evening's action with a tag team match featuring the Knockout’s World Champion Trinity and X-Division Champion Chris Sabin. The action was fast and furious as Dinamico neutralised Chris with some high-flying offence on the outside. Moments later, Trinity would turn things around, pinning Tormenta following her signature Full Nelson Bomb.

A good opening match. It’s great to see a difference in wrestling styles. This is the first time I have seen Chik and Dinamico and I was very impressed with their skills and talent. An enjoyable match. Grade C+

Backstage Segment:

Josh Alexander is backstage. He talks about Alex Shelley being the Undisputed World Champion and also about how he needs to now be the standard of Impact Wrestling and TNA. He then challenges the Motor City Machine Guns to a match at Final Resolution and tells everyone that his partner will be Zack Sabre Jr.

Match 2: Triple Threat - Eddie Edwards vs Myzteziz Jr vs Latigo

Triple threat action now. An alliance between Myzteziz and Latigo was formed but it didn’t last long. High-risk offence led to Latigo taking out Myzteziz Jr with a Mexican Destroyer on the ramp. Back in the ring, Myzteziz soared with a Shooting Star to pin Edwards.

Another good match. Plenty of action and a fast paced match. Again, this is the first time I have seen Myzteziz and Latigo and they are amazing to watch. Grade C

Backstage Segment:

Trey Miguel is backstage. He talks about his upcoming match with Mike Bailey at Final Resolution. He also says that he will not get in the ring with Mike Bailey if he does not wear something on his feet.

Backstage Segment:

The Motor City Machine Guns are backstage. The Motor City Machine Guns say that they will not go into the TNA Debut show in 2024 as losers. They are the greatest tag team and some of the greatest technical wrestlers.

Match 3: Jordynne Grace & Sexy Star vs Deonna Purrazzo & Maravilla

Deonna and Maravilla worked well together as they cut off the ring and prevented Star from making the tag. Eventually, Star was able to create separation and tag Jordynne into the match. After overcoming a biased referee, Jordynne planted Maravilla with the Juggernaut Driver to win.

Another good match, so far it's been a decent showing from both companies. Jordynne and Deonna got to slightly renew their rivalry in this one. Grade C

Match 4: Tommy Dreamer & Laredo Kid vs Brian Myers & Black Taurus

Brian used his veteran instinct to hang up Tommy on the ropes, allowing Taurus to gain control. Brian was about to fly when Tommy took things to the extreme, cracking him in the head with a cookie tray. It was Laredo who then spiked Taurus with the Sunset Bomb to win.

Another good match. Dreamer managed to throw a little ECW in this one with the cookie tray. There was good chemistry in this one. Grade C

After the match, Tommy Dreamer and Laredo Kid put Black Taurus through a table.

Backstage Segment:

Trinity is backstage and she is discussing her upcoming match at Hard to Kill. She is then interrupted by Jordynne Grace, who says that they need to talk about Final Resolution. She says that they need to be on the same page when they face Gisele Shaw and Deonna Purrazzo. But that will be a different story at Hard to Kill.

Match 5: Josh Alexander & Octagon Jr vs Moose & Toxin

Octagon Jr had the match won following a 450 Splash to Toxin but the pin was broken up by Moose. Several minutes later, Moose narrowly avoided defeat at the hands of Octagon Jr, then speared him to win.

Another great match, Josh & Moose able to put on a great match and with the added element of Octagon Jr & Toxin really made this a great tag team match. Grade C+

Backstage Segment:

Tommy Dreamer is backstage. He discussed his upcoming match at Final Resolution against Deaner. Tommy vows to leave Final Resolution as the Digital Media Champion and take the title into Hard to Kill.

Promo Video:

Kazuchika Okada makes his return to TNA Wrestling at Snake Eyes on the 14th January in Las Vegas.

Main Event: Motor City Machine Guns & El Hijo Del Vikingo vs Trey Miguel & Los Vipers

Following a flurry of near falls, Trey was unable to put Chris away. The Motor City Machine Guns put their innovative offence on display as they locked in dual STF submissions on Los Vipers. Then, Trey almost put Vikingo away with a vicious Poison Rana. But the end came when Vikingo hit Trey with the Phoenix Splash for three.

Amazing main event! The amount of talent involved in this match was just unbelievable. We need to see more of these AAA talents in TNA. Grade B

Overall, this was a really good episode. They managed to get some build in for Final Resolution with the backstage segments, but there wasn’t really much build within the matches. Still, it was an enjoyable show with some excellent matches. The AAA talent need to do more with TNA in the future as there could be some really good rivalries here.
