Final Resolution 2023 Review

Jamie-Leigh Dodd

It is the final ever PPV under the Impact Wrestling banner. We have a stacked card, so let’s get straight into the action!

The action starts on Countdown to Final Resolution.

PCO vs Jessie V

PCO jumpstarts the match as he dives through the ropes and takes out Jessie on the floor. PCO hits a leg drop, then collides with him on the ring apron. Jessie finds an opening, soaring with a Frog Splash from the top. PCO shuts down Jessie’s momentum, then hits the PCO-sault to win.

An OK match to kick off the pre-show. I hope that Jessie V got a good pay day for getting battered by PCO. Grade D

Backstage Segment:

Jake Something is backstage. He is discussing his match tonight against Jason Hotch. He also talks about how this is the last Impact PPV and how he stands for everything TNA stands for. He is then attacked from behind by Jason Hotch with a steel chair. Security comes in to separate Jason Hotch from Jake Something.

Jack Price vs Aiden Prince

Jack hits a Flatliner out of the corner. Aiden hits the ropes but Jack slows the pace with a dropkick. Jack drops Aiden face-first into the top turnbuckle, followed by a German suplex for two. Jack hits a modified Rough Rider but it’s still not enough to keep Aiden down. Aiden bounces back with a Flatliner of his own. Aiden is about to fly but Jack retreats to the other side of the ring. Jack delivers a thumb to the eye, then hits the Pressure Check Gutbuster to win.

Another OK match. I’m not aware of who these two men are, but they have some great potential. I wonder if we will see them in TNA come January. Grade C-

Backstage Interview:

Gia Miller is backstage with Trinity & Jordynne Grace ahead of their tag team match later. There is some tension between the two as they also prepare to go into Hard to Kill to battle for the Knockout’s Championship.

Sheldon Jean vs Frankie Kazarian

Sheldon targets the nose of Frankie in the early going. Frankie goes for a springboard leg drop but Sheldon cuts him off and sends Frankie toppling to the floor. Sheldon drives Frankie shoulder-first into the steel ring post. Back in the ring, Sheldon remains in control as he chokes Frankie on the ropes. Frankie counters a back suplex attempt, then begins to build momentum. Frankie successfully hits the springboard leg drop for two. Frankie avoids a leg lariat, then locks in the Chicken Wing to win by submission.

A good match. There has been a lot of action on the Countdown to Final Resolution. So far, this has been the best match on the Countdown show for me. Grade C

Final Resolution is now on the air!

Match 1: Impact World Tag Team Championship Match - ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) vs Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards

Ace and Chris gain the early advantage off a double dropkick to Brian. Chris launches himself off the back of Ace, delivering a back elbow to Eddie. Moments later, the tide is turned as Eddie and Brian cut off the ring and wear Chris down. Brian distracts the referee as Alisha Edwards attacks Chris from the outside. After several minutes, Chris fights free and makes the tag to Ace. The pace quickens as Ace brings the fight to both of his opponents. Ace takes Eddie down with a springboard kick for two. Eddie comes back with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall of his own. Brian spears Chris on the apron. Eddie hits a Backpack Stunner on Ace, followed by a top rope elbow drop from Brian. Ace and Chris hit the 1, 2 Sweet on Brian to win.

Great opening match on Final Resolution. Glad that ABC retained their titles. Eddie and Brian had some great chemistry as a team. Grade C+

After the match, Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz attack ABC and stand with the tag team titles.

Backstage Segment:

Josh Alexander and Zack Sabre Jr are backstage. They discuss their upcoming match against the Motor City Machine Guns.

Alisha Edwards, Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers remain in the ring. Santino Marella comes out and says that if Alisha won't leave, then he knows someone that will make her. Jody Threat makes her way to the ring.

Match 2: Jody Threat vs Alisha Edwards w/Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers

Jody takes Alisha down and pummels her with strikes. Jody hits a suplex out of the corner for two. The referee catches Eddie trying to push Jody off the top rope, prompting the referee to eject Eddie and Brian from ringside. Jody flies with a top rope crossbody to Eddie and Brian on the floor. Alisha capitalises off the distraction to gain control. Alisha hits her signature running crossbody for two. Alisha locks in a Boston Crab. Jody fights free and spikes Alisha with a Driver to turn the tables. Alisha counters Pop Shove-It into a Flatliner for another near fall. Jody catches Alisha in mid-air and hits Pop Shove-It to win.

A good match, this one was not advertised so it was nice to get an impromptu match. Jody got a great response from the crowd. Grade C

Match 3: Digital Media Championship - Tommy Dreamer vs Deaner

Deaner retreats to the outside in the early going but Tommy makes him pay with a poke to the eyes. Deaner knocks Tommy off the apron, then whips Tommy’s hand into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Deaner continues to target the left arm of Tommy. Deaner mocks his opponent with a series of jabs. Tommy stops Deaner with the Bionic Elbow but Deaner continues the beatdown. Deaner leaps off the top but Tommy gets his boot up. Tommy delivers a Bionic Elbow, followed by his signature cutter for a near fall. Deaner grabs the Digital Media Title but the referee stops him from using it. Deaner wraps the Digital Media Title over the top turnbuckle pad but it comes back to bite him. Tommy catapults him into the gold, then hits the DDT to win.

An OK match, I was probably expecting a little more from this one, but it wasn’t bad. Happy that Tommy retained. Grade C-

Backstage Segment:

Santino Marella turns Trey Miguel’s singles match against Mike Bailey into a tag team match, and that match is next.

Match 4: The Rascalz (Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz) vs Mike Bailey & Trent Seven

Mike and Trent deliver in-sync strikes to their opponents as the Rascalz retreat to the outside to regain their composure. Zachary pulls Trent’s hair as Trey jabs him in the throat. Trey hits Trent with a double foot stomp off the top rope. Trey begins to wear Trent down with a Figure Four headlock. The Rascalz deliver an incredible sequence of offence including double knees, a neckbreaker, and a Shooting Star. Trent spikes Trey with a DDT to create some much-needed separation, allowing him to make the tag to Mike. The pace quickens as Mike brings the fight to the Rascalz. Mike counters a handspring from Zachary into a mid-air superkick. Trent back body-drops Trey over the top rope to the floor. Mike superkicks Zachary into a German suplex from Trent but Trey breaks the pin. Zachary hits a double stomp on Trent but it’s not enough. ABC makes their way to ringside and the Rascalz are distracted. Trent hits Zachary with a Burning Hammer, followed by Ultima Weapon from Mike to win.

A good match. Amazing to see Trent Seven! So much talent in one match. ABC managed to get a measure of payback on the Rascalz by providing a distraction. I hope we will see more of Trent in TNA. Grade C+

After the match, Scott D’Amore comes out to the ring. He signs Trent Seven to a TNA contract!

Backstage Segment:

The Motor City Machine Guns are backstage. They talk about their upcoming match against Josh Alexander and Zack Sabre Jr. The Motor City Machine Guns praise their opponents, but say that they do not have what it takes to hang with the kings of tag team wrestling.

Match 5: Jake Something vs Jason Hotch

Jason Hotch comes to the ring and he says that he will not have a match tonight after he assaulted Jake Something with a chair earlier. Unfortunately for Jason, Jake Something makes his way to the ring for their match.

Jason immediately targets the previously-injured lower back of Jake. Jason is relentless on his attack but Jake will not stay down. Jake fights back with a series of thudding clotheslines as he turns Jason inside out. Jake hits a shoulder tackle in the corner but his back gives out when going for the follow-up powerbomb. Jake fights through the pain to successfully hit the powerbomb. Jake sends Jason Into the Void to win.

An OK match. This was a very predictable match. Still, I’m happy that Jake Something is still going strong. Grade C-

Match 6: Rhino vs Moose

Rhino repeatedly drives Moose face-first into the apron. Moose hits a low blow in front of the referee, causing the disqualification.

Rhino gets on the microphone and says that he did not come all the way to Toronto to win by DQ. He wants to restart the match as a Street Fight! David Penzer receives word that Santino Marella has sanctioned the match, and if Moose does not compete, then he will lose his TNA World Title shot at Hard to Kill. Moose returns to the ring and the match begins.

Rhino hits a vertical suplex on the steel ramp. Rhino retrieves a ladder from underneath the ring and drives it into the solar-plexus of Moose. Rhino is trapped in the corner as Rhino smashes his arm with a steel chair. Minutes later, Rhino powerbombs Moose through a table for two. Rhino goes for the Gore but Moose whips a steel chair at Rhino’s head. Moose charges but this time it’s Rhino who counters as he sends Moose crashing into a ladder. Rhino inadvertently Irish whips Moose into the referee. Rhino hits the Gore but the delay in getting a new referee allows Moose to kick out. Moments later, Rhino accidently Gores the new referee through a table. Moose spears Rhino to win.

I was very disappointed when the match initially ended in a DQ. Very glad that it was then changed to a street fight. It wasn’t as brutal as I was expecting it to be, but it was still an OK match. Grade C

Match 7: Trinity & Jordynne Grace vs Deonna Purrazzo & Gisele Shaw

Trinity attempts Star Struck in the early going but Deonna quickly counters. Jordynne hits Gisele with a stalling front suplex, followed by a powerslam. Jordynne dives through the ropes, taking out both of her opponents on the floor. Gisele counters the Juggernaut Driver, then knocks Trinity off the apron. Deonna and Gisele cut off the ring as they began to wear Jordynne down. Jordynne uses her quickness to escape out of the corner, allowing her to make the tag to Trinity. The pace quickens as Trinity hits the running splits on Gisele. Trinity connects with a bulldog but Deonna breaks the pin attempt. Trinity plants Gisele into the mat with an assist from Jordynne. The fight spills to the outside where Deonna drives Jordynne back-first into the side of the ring. Trinity hits Deonna with a pinpoint Enzuigiri, then makes the tag to Jordynne. Deonna traps her in the Fujiwara Armbar but Jordynne breaks free. Trinity neutralises Gisele on the floor. Jordynne powerbombs Deonna, followed by a Full Nelson Bomb from Trinity. Jordynne pins Deonna to win.

A good tag team match. Great chemistry between all four women. Another match that had a predictable win though. Still an enjoyable match. Grace C+

After the match, Deonna offers Gisele a handshake, Gisele accepts the handshake but then hits Deonna with the Shock & Awe.

Backstage Interview:

Gia Miller is backstage with Moose. Moose says that he is putting to bed all the versions of Moose that we know. And at Hard to Kill, he shall simply be known as Moose - the new TNA World Champion.

Main Event: The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) vs Josh Alexander & Zack Sabre Jr.

Josh hits Chris with a Flapjack, then attempts an Ankle Lock but Chris fights it off. Zack twists and bends the arm of Alex. Josh and Zack employ quick tags as they pick apart Alex’s arms and legs. Chris finally tags himself into the match and the Guns turn things around. Alex traps Zack in a straight jacket manoeuvre. The pace quickens as Josh goes on the attack. Josh delivers a series of German suplexes to Alex. Moments later, Alex sends Josh face-first into the middle turnbuckle. Alex locks in the Motor City Stretch but Josh transitions into a pin attempt for two. Chris locks in an STF on Zack, then spikes him with a tornado DDT. Chris takes down both of his opponents with a crossbody off the top. Chris hits another tornado DDT, this time on Josh. Chris missile dropkicks Josh into a Flatliner from Alex for another near fall. The Guns lock in simultaneous Figure Four Leg Locks on Zack and Josh. Zack counters the Cradle Shock into an armbar. Alex fights off an Ankle Lock by sending him crashing into Zack. The action is back and forth until Josh spikes Chris with the C4 Spike to win.

An amazing match. Some of the best wrestlers in the world today. Josh picking up the win was the best move, this shows that he is the standard for TNA. Hopefully, we will see more of Zack Sabre Jr as well. Grade B

Overall, a good final PPV for Impact Wrestling. The next PPV will be under the TNA banner. I am so excited for the rebrand to TNA, that was the company that I fell in love with all those years ago.
