Will the Natural get his first AEW title tonight? After interrupting the post match interview of Sting on Collision what will the Young Bucks say? How fast will Samoa Joe put Hook away or will he lose it on his first title defense? Keep reading below to find out.
The two veterans look evenly matched in the early going of the match. Dustin has a nice power slam. I know I have said it before but it is just nice. The two men brawling outside has the advantage to Dustin, however, he can't win the belt out there. The match has been all Dustin the first ten minutes of Dynamite. This just sets up for interference later in the match. I am glad this match is going long enough for both men to get their spots in. Dustin is looking great for having a 35 year career. Nick Wayne is playing the manager role on the outside well. He is being overly excited and trying to pump the crowd not by calling on them but by encouraging Christian Cage. Interference almost cost Dustin Rhodes the match. Dustin had Christian in a cradle and Nick switched whose shoulders were on the mat. Nick Wayne took a massive Canadian Destroyer on the floor. Dustin succumb to two kill switches. This is how I felt the match would go. I doubt Christian will lose it without some feud involved.
Penta and Cassidy start with a series of arm drags. A lot of the match was in picture in picture for the TBS viewers. The match was near constant high paced action. There were areas that the wrestlers allowed places to rest and the audience soak them in. Komander nearly stole the victory with a crucifix pin. Komander lands on his feet after a phoenix splash missed. The agility of luchadors is amazing. Trent secured the win.
The Undisputed Kingdom would come out after the match. Roderick Strong again challenged Orange Cassidy to a match for the International Championship. Orange said to do it right now. Roderick would rather set the date for March 3, 2024 at Revolution. Six weeks away.
One year ago today Jay Briscoe passed. Mark did deliver a wonderful update. His oldest niece that was reported paralyzed is walking.
The Young Bucks now want to get by Nicholas and Matthew. They are going to take their roles as Executive Vice Presidents more seriously. Matthew says he would do everything over again if need be as an answer to the rumors. They seem to have a mission statement of getting rid of all the veteran's like Sting. They neither confirmed nor denied being Sting's final opponents.
Bullet Club Gold is finally in action. While I would rather them be facing the AEW Trios champs the fact that they are in a match for a title is nice. There is a lot of RoH titles on AEW television. Commentary should push RoH better. Jay White starts off against the big man Toa Leona. Toa would put White in the corner and just knee him. The big powerful men of Mogul Embassy pulverize Bullet Club Gold. Bishop Khan and Toa Leona did a nice backstabber elbow drop combo. Another massive move by Toa. Colton sold that pounce amazingly. Despite Nana's interference Jay White is able to kick out of a massive knee. Jay White is able to pin Bishop Khan after an assist with dealing with Nana.
I feel like the outcome of this match will set Anna Jay back. She has been gaining momentum, however, Purrazzo is the new shiny toy for the victory. The start of the match allowed Deonna to no sell something and taunt Anna Jay. Anna is looking good against Deonna Purrazzo so it isn't as bad as KM against Hook on Collision. Having competitive matches for early outings to me builds a stronger image than easy wins. Toni Storm is hilarious on commentary. Deonna Purrazzo got the Venus De Milo out of nowhere for the win.
Rene Paquette joined Deonna in the ring after the match. Deonna brings up the history of friendship they had in the past. However, both have changed. Toni retorts by calling Purrazzo an "artificially tanned hag". Classy diss. Shoes then started flying.
This on paper has the potential to be match of the night. It is also the return of Private Party after thirteen months. The start of the match is some technical holds with flashy fast passed transitions. All four men get into the ring at once early in the match. However, they do not break down as Taz would attribute to respect. Marquine seems to have put on some weight and is wrestling with his shirt on under his vest. Marquine did four dives. The second didn't look to smooth but all turned out alright. Gin and Juice nearly secured the victory. Using the top rope did secure the win for Private Party.
The Cold Hearted Handsome Devil came out first. They set a 60 min time limit but there is only 11 min left in the broadcast. Hook had his back turned to Joe until the bell rang. Hook then exploded like a firecracker with blows to Joe. The two men would fall to the outside. One massive back elbow would flatten Hook. Hook attempted a T-Bone suplex but Samoa Joe stopped him. A sliding lariat by Hook caused Joe to escape the ring. Hook did an Orange Punch off the apron. Then Joe would deliver a massive urinagi onto the announce desk. That did not look like a comfortable landing. It looked to me as if the base of his skull hit the corner. Samoa Joe would follow up the devastating assault by power bombing Hook on to the apron. Doc Sampson did not stop the match but told him he did not have to continue. Joe would attempt to end the match with a Death Valley Driver. Musclebuster only got a one count. Hook has a comeback with a series of jumping clothes lines punctuated with a T-bone suplex. Hook tries to put Red Rum on Joe but Joe blocks. Hook passes out to the coquina clutch. Samoa Joe has a successful defense.
