New Year's Smash from Orlando, Florida. This was the finals for the Continental Classic for the Blue and Gold League. Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland and Jay White entered with 12 points. Eddie Kingston entered with 9 point; Danile Bryanson ended with 10 points.
Having a triple threat keeps all three me strong no matter who wins and who loses. Jay White attempted to go to the outside and not be involved in the fray. This was prevented by Strickland. Typical coward heel tactic. I am not liking them fighting in the crowd. It turns into just a slug fest. It is also more dangerous than it has to be. You see Swerve knock Mox down and Mox's head hits the cement floor. Swerve missed a dive but recovered. That was smooth. Moxley is selling a knee issue. Mox is taking a lot of punishment. Swerve punts Jay White in the head. Mox then tries a double underhook DDT but Swerve tosses him over the rope. Frog Splash by Swerve Strickland to the outside opponents. Nice sequence of moves. Paradigm shift for a near fall on Swerve Strickland. Jay White is missing from the action. Jay White finally appears to save Swerve from going thru the table. That does not make logical sense. Let your opponent get put thru the table neutralize that factor. Swerve showed his strength with picking up Jay White for a powerslam. Sleeper suplex by Jay White to Swerve; Sleeper by Mox broken up by Swerve. The high impact moves are coming fast and heavy by now. The end must be near. Mox could be seen prepping for the chair shot to the back. I don't blame him. Mox smoothly sent the chair out of the ring before the attempted Swerve Stomps. Mox would eventually win with a Death Rider. This sets up an interesting match for the championship no matter who wins the Blue League. Both Kingston and Danielson have connections to Moxley.
Swerve Strickland seemed like a mad man in his promo. Swerve set up his match against Keith Lee for Saturday.
Mariah May sets up her wrestling debut for the first Dynamite in 2024. That felt like one of Tony Khan's big announcements. Riho and Toni Storm do come out to brawl to add some excitement to the segment.
Another strange segment. Don Callis celebrating Boxing Week. The paintings were entertaining. Bright spot Sammy Guevara returned. Sammy is also mad. Having Sammy Guevara come back here and not as the Devil does disappoint me. Jericho and Floyd comes out to save Sammy from the beat down. Bit over done with having Sting and Darby eventually come out for the ultimate save.
I think the most entertaining thing about the who is the devil stuff has become Roderick Strong trying to prove MJF is the Devil. This reminds me of when TNA did a who was Suicide storyline.
Slow methodical start to the match. These two were men that I was not interested in having in the Blue League Final. They are both decent wrestlers but not ones I care to watch. Danielson can be a technical wrestlers but is just doing a brawling style. Danielson gives his kick but Eddie Kingston ate them and started chopping. Bryan Danielson taunted Kingston. That is until Kingston hits him with a suplex. Machine Gun chops. Tree of Woe for some yes kicks to Eddie Kingston. Eddie reversed a top rope suplex according to Excalibur. It just looked like he fell awkwardly to me. Eddie did lant on Danielson's injured eye. Bryan Danielson spits on Eddie Kingston then they exchange chops. The height differential is apparent here. Both men has ruby red chests. Eddie gets a near fall with a horrible looking Northern Lights Bomb. Buziko knee to Eddie who kicks out at two from a high stack. Danielson runs into a urikan. Eddie would hit some powerful looking blows before hitting another urikan. Kingston wins with a powerbomb. This is the fist time that Kingston has beat Danielson ever. I think this match went on far too long. Mox against Kingston at World's End has some good story behind it. The question is how will they get it out to build interest in these two fighting beside just for a title.
Jon Moxley does come out to check on Bryan Danielson. Moxley then cuts a promo on Eddie. Mox says everyone loves Eddie but at World's End the fans deserve the best of Eddie Kingston. Mox already sets up the underdog victory for Kingston. That will be a disappointment for me.
Adam Copeland and Christian do not exchange words at all. Interesting people used to break up the fight are the Von Erichs. KM who is a former tag partner of Fallah Bah from Impact Wrestling. He also runs Alaska Rev Pro which have a stacked fifth anniversary show coming up.
Skyle Blue has a very nice dark gimmick going on. Her and Julia Hart together would make a better version of the Coven than what Impact had. Statlander shows off her strength. Nice series of scoop slams by Kris Statlander. Sky Blue does trie for a helicopter but Statlander just cartwheels out of it. Statlander does a nice delayed vertical suplex. Skye Blue hits a pumpkick and a knee to the head to start a comeback. Julia Hart interferes to give Skye Blue the victory. Willow Nightingale comes out to save Kris Statlander as both Julia Hart and Skye Blue beat her down. Not to be forgotten, Abadon comes out. They do their creepy stance on the top of the ramp.
This has got to stop. AEW ran over the 9:00 pm Central time yet again. This time it was worse than usual. Tony Schiavone mentioned they would stick with the action at the beginning of the show. They didn't even start the match until after 9:00 pm. The match had a 20 minute time limit. Samoa Joe was shown in the back having been taken out at the knee. MJF decided to do it as a handicap match. MJF goes for the mask but the second assailant is able to prevent MJF from taking the mask off. I cannot tell if the larget person in the match is Wardlow or not. AEW has used Wardlow previously. A third mask man attacked MJF from under the ring. A HeatSeeker and use fo the ropes gets the masked me the RoH title. Joe limps out with a chair to run them off after the Masked Men were stomping MJF. Samoe Joe faked the knee injury and attacked MJF. Was Joe the Devil the entire time?
