We at Real Rasslin can confirm that
Drew McIntyre not only won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in front of CM Punk tonight at WrestleMania 40, he lost it too.
While the first match of tonight’s WrestleMania 40 was Drew McIntyre challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Championship, there would end up being a wild finish involving multiple moving parts.
CM Punk has a savage response after his beatdown of Drew McIntyre cost him his newly won title.
You can see a screengrab of the Instagram post below shared by WWE on Fox on Twitter featuring the reverse of Drew McIntyre’s meme of him over the grave of CM Punk’s WrestleMania main event and instead, with some edits.
Now the meme, posted by Punk himself on Instagram, has Punk giving the peace sign over the fresh grave with a photo of Drew McIntyre’s face on the gravestone.
Of course in the segment McIntyre had already won the title by beating Seth Rollins when he took pause to taunt CM Punk who had been on commentary for the match.
After their exchange turned physical and Punk knocked McIntyre down off his perch on the commentary desk, even hitting Drew with his arm brace after removing it, Damian Priest emerged for his big Money in the Bank moment.
Priest cashed in the briefcase, had a fast match against McIntyre and won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
We will have to wait until tomorrow night’s (April 8) WWE Raw to find out whether or not Priest reveals if he was already plotting the cash-in or if the interaction with CM Punk was the catalyst for the big moment.
The ‘wild finish with multiple moving parts’ theme would continue in the night’s eventual main event as Cody Rhodes bested Roman Reigns to end his historic reign and brought out quite the cavalry to get it done.
