Slow start to the night. The fans are not behind MJF tonight. MJF is keeping the feud going between himself and Ospreay going. Nothing spectacular. He does toss the International Championship in the trash to unveil the American Championship. I has a nice strap that imitates the American Flag. Ospreay did attack MJF to end the segment. Ospreay has a rematch at All In London Sunday August 25, 2024. Ospreay carries the old belt to the back. Looks like this title change may just be a merch ploy.
Minoru Suzuki is 56. Chris Jericho is 53. Two ages that just a decade ago would not have been wrestling as such high caliber. The Learning Tree is banned from ringside but it is FTW Rules. No logic. The two men start by chopping each other. Jericho's first one looked a little weak. Both men did look like they got harder as it went on. This match is all chops for the first minutes of the match. I do not find this to be entertaining at all. Although, Jericho's chest is a dark red from the blood. Finally a clothsline took Suzuki down and wrestling began. Suzuki is very awkward with the chair. Armbar by Suzuki who continues to work on the fingers of Jericho. Jericho breaks the hold with a rake to the eyes then a code breaker for a one count. The fans are super behind Minoru Suzuki. Sleeper locked in on Chris Jericho converted into a Walls of Jericho by Jericho. Suzuki gets out quickly and goes to a Gotch Style Piledriver attempt. Gotch is blocked with a low blow then Judas Effect for the win. This was a really subpar match in my opinion. The fans are given what they want after the match when Shibata makes a save from the Learning Tree beat down.
High hopes for Britt Baker's in ring return. Hopefully, Hikaru Shida and her can have a nice clean match that does not focus on Mercedes Mone. Collar and Elbow tie up has the match starting with them on equal footing. Baker goes for the Lock Jaw early but does not work. Series of pin and pin reversals by the ladies. Wrestling with a double ring must be hard to adapt your outside repertoire. I noticed Shida kind of hesitating before throwing Baker into the barricade. Shida has taken control allowing for the babyface beatdown and comeback. Sling blade as part of her comeback before Britt Bakerpulls out her red glove for the Lock Jaw. Shida takes this time to recover and attack. This is a good match so far. Again Britt Baker DMD goes for the Lock Jaw and cannot get it in. Shida teases using the Kendo Stick but that was a mistake as it allowed Britt to hit a swinging neck breaker. Falcon Arrow by Shida. Britt blocks the Katana and turns it into a Lock Jaw. Glad Mercedes Mone did not screw this up. Unfortunately Mone did come out at the end of the match to refuse a match at Wembley. Kamille former NWA women's champion comes out and lays Britt Baker out.
PAC against Boulder. Not on the flyer but nice to see the Bastard in action A quick one where Taz was correct in Boulder being the underdog. The match was finished with a Brain Buster from PAC.
Another squash match. Not good to see them back to back. After the MayDay the humilation and taunting of Toni Storm continued with a Hip Attack and Storm Zero. Toni's music hit. Storm was one of the ring crew. Hockey fight between the two ladies.
TNT Champion Jack Perry with a special Scapegoat Chair is the first man to the ring. The heels as always have the advantage. Jack does not let Darby inot the cage before hitting him with a chair. Honestly I would have left these two for last, but I assume that honor is going to Swerve and Hangman. Jack Perry is really kicking the shit out of Darby. Nicholas Jackson is the second member of Team Elite to come out. Mark Briscoe comes out to even the odds for Team AEW. Mark hits a nice diving lariat from one ring to the next. Matthew Jackson comes out bearing a second case giving Team Elite the advantage. DDT to Darby Allin cracks the wooden case. Powerbombing Darby into Mark was cool. Following it up by the rolling Northernlights suplex and other double team moves made it better. Hitting these moves makes it look like there won't be much once the war beyond begins. Oh, wait that is the WCW term. Bowens evens the match and takes down the Young Bucks before hitting a Fame Asser on Perry. Briscoe is back up. Darby tried to mount a comeback but is stopped. Meltzer Driver teased but stopped by a cutter by Briscoe and a Scorpion Death Drop by Darby. Bowens stars to use scissors on Perry. The crowd thinks Bowens is a sick fuck. Okada with a Rainmaker Drive sign hits the ring. Darby is the first man to take more than one hit from that street sign. Briscoe takes a Tombstone on it. This is insane and there are still three men who need to enter. Max comes out with a microphone but does not bust any rhymes. Max pulls out a CuckBucks barbed wire board and tries to put Nick through it. Bowens ends up getting hip tossed and scoop slammed into it. Nicholas then Senton's onto Bowens as he was sandwiched between two of them. Max Caster's mouth is filled with Thumbtacks before The Young Bucks super kicks him. Adam Page's music hits. No Hangman on the entry ramp. This allows Team AEW to recover and attack. Scissor Me Timbers with barbed wire around Bowen's leg. Swerve Strickland comes out. Page shows up and attacks Swerve. Swerve gets handcuffed to the outside. Page only attacks Swerve. Matthew Jackson threatens to fire Hangman if he didn't get in the ring. Odd. Hangman gets in the ring and the bell rings. Swerve is on the outside. Okada and Hangman seemed to disagree. Briscoe hits Page with a Death Valley Driver. The Elite stars to stable Swerve and I know from experience that is not fun. Looks like there may be another person go from the top of the cage as quadrable tables are set up. Anthony Bowens is the unlucky participant. It was not from the very top but still high enough up. Briscoe with four Jay Drillers. Froggie Bow between the rings. Massive coffin drop from Darby Allin as he shimmied out to drop onto Jack Perry. Briscoe hits a handcuffed Jack Perry and tell him to say "I Quit." Darby grabs the microphone but it does not come across the tv. Darby then goes under the ring for something. That something turns out to be gasoline and a lighter. Darby gets the microphone again and threatens to light Jack on fire if he does not quit. Matthew Jackson quits to save Jack Perry from getting set on fire. He also set up a TNT Championship match at All In. An alright finish. Last years Blood and Guts was better.
