AEW Continental Classic: 3 Titles for 1 Tournament!

On the occasion of AEW Full Gear 2023, Tony Khan revealed additional details about the Continental Classic tournament set to kick off this week on Dynamite.

Eddie Kingston announced that he will defend his titles as the ROH World Champion and NJPW Strong Openweight Champion throughout the tournament. Consequently, the tournament winner will become a triple champion, holding the ROH World Champion, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion, and AEW Continental Champion titles.

During a press conference after Full Gear, Tony Khan confirmed this news. He declared that the tournament winner would be crowned the Triple Crown Champion, and the three championships would be merged into one. This new championship will be defended in AEW, ROH, and NJPW, open to wrestlers from all three promotions. It is still too early to determine the name of this mega-championship, although the option of the Continental Championship is being considered, given that it will be defended across all continents.

The Continental Classic tournament will operate on a points system with two groups. A victory will earn three points, a draw will earn one point, and no victory will result in zero points. The grand finale between the two groups will take place at the Worlds End PPV at the end of the year.

Wrestlers already announced for the tournament include Bryan Danielson, Andrade El Idolo, Mark Briscoe, and Eddie Kingston."
